POLK COUNTY

Field Goal(s) – 3 points for District 8A-7

Teams:
George Jenkins
Haines City
Kissimee-Gateway
Kissimee-Osceola
Ridge Community

Again with the parity stuff? Yeah, again.
Only one of these teams outside of Osceola finished above .500 last season and that was Haines City. The Rockets had a cyborg on their team by the name of Derwin James and he’s off to Florida State to go be all cyborg-y and perhaps thew nations’ best freshman. So that leaves Gateway, Ridge and Jenkins a chance to scrap it out each week and all three have the ability to knock off each other so why not expect fireworks? Oh, and if you choose to sleep on either Ridge or Jenkins this season, that’s on you because even if they do. Yeah, we said it.

Getting to know your Osceola (County) neighbors…
The Kowboys are the Class 7A runners-up and return some serious talent. Leading that talent on offense for them is Laderrien Wilson who rushed for 1,902 yards and 28 touchdowns last season on a team that rushed for JUST under 5,000 yards for the season. Gateway’s Henry Miller is 6-foot-1, 195-pound ATH that plays QB, but is at the top of Michigan State’s recruiting wish list as a CB.

9/18-Jenkins at Ridge: This game sets the tone for two teams that are vastly improved and looking to prove a point.
10/23-Ridge at Gateway: The Bolts may find themselves in a position to handle their postseason business this weekend before having to face their arch rivals from Haines City the final week of district play. Gateway may be the last obstacle remaining if Ridge has the kind of season their primed to have.
