Week-in/Week-out…
The more we look at this district, the more we like it. It’s a brand new season and there’s some talent to make plenty of noise. Granted, Nature Coast Tech is the only team in this district to finish over .500 last season at 6-4 while Citrus and Lecanto ended up at 5-5, but with senior-heavy teams. The rest of the teams all went through adversity in their own right and are happy that 2014 is now way in the past. What’s the point? Well, we can find reasons (aka playmakers) on every single one of these teams to point to why they will all be much tougher and competitive this season and that means no weeks off once district play begins.

So, is it a one-horse race or not?
Not exactly. Although Nature Coast appears to be the best team in this district on paper, the very reasons we stated above are the very reasons why we are far from crowning the Sharks district champions. There’s plenty of competition in this district to be had, and we could easily see this district either needing a Monday in November to decide the runners-up, or perhaps if something goes crazy during the regular season and one of the favorites get tripped up, we could see a tiebreaker for both playoff spots needing to happen. Don’t be surprised to see at least four teams alive for two spots late in the season.

Save the date…
Crystal River turned some heads when they defeated Nature Coast 26-21 during the first week of the season last year. This season, they’ll meet at the end of September (the 25th to be exact) in a district game. You don’t need to be related to Miss Cleo to understand this game was circled on the Sharks’ calendar the second it was released and with the Pirates returning some talent and the confidence to get it done, this could be a fun night.
