POLK COUNTY RECRUITING

Breaking Down Kathleen’s Zimmerman

Marquis Zimmerman, Kathleen 2016 Slot/ATH is a magnificent player. Brings toughness and grit to the Red Devil offense along with playmaking ability and field smarts. Below is a brief breakdown based off Zimmerman’s 2014 film.

SPEED B+

Marquis has a crazy, quick burst. He is able to get to top speed in less than 10 yards. On his film he pulls away from defenders leaving them in his wake. Many times finishing plays in the end zone. Kathleen fans will argue, “A B+!?!?” Like a B+ speed is slow. It’s better we show you than fight you on what A+ speed looks like…

CONCENTRATION A+

Receivers are expected to catch the football. Sorta is written in the job description. Just because a player can catch the football, doesn’t mean they can do the same when the player knows he is about to get smashed or when draped on by two or more defenders. Zimmerman has that skill. He has great concentration. Over and over he comes down with big catches in and out of traffic. His body control allows him to play bigger than his frame and out perform taller players. He does a good job of getter small after catching the ball in the teeth of the defense. Runs past the coverage while creating separation on deep balls.

ROUTE RUNNING undetermined

The majority of his film shows Marquis cutting up the turf making crazy special team plays or running past defensive backs on Go routes. His short routes were receiver screens and only two intermediate routes were displayed on his film. Not his fault, the offensive scheme did not call for him to run traditional routes (3 step game, dig, curl, hook, etc). So route running is undetermined.

PLAYMAKING ABILITY A

The best player on the team makes plays…OFTEN! Case and point for Zimmerman. Whether he is lining up deep on kickoffs and punt returns, in the slot or out wide, at the running back position…Marquis makes plays. Many of the plays he makes on film, the reaction is “Did he just? No he didn’t!” He is a one cut and accelerate runner. Not a shifty runner, but a decisive runner which makes him so good on kickoff returns.
