Welcome back to another week in highlighting the accomplishments of some of our ballers that have moved on to the collegiate ranks. From this point in the season until the teams are done, we will separate the offensive and defensive accolades in order to broaden the scope of guys to be included. So with that in mind, let’s get to the fellas on offense. As always, you’ll find a few names that have been on the list before, and a few new ones.
Chase Litton, QB – Marshall (Wharton HS)
He’s made this list earlier in the season as a winner, and he’s back on it following a string performance for the Thundering Herd in their 27-7 victory over Old Dominion. Litton was 21-of-35 for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Artavis Scott, WR – Clemson (East Lake HS)
Hard to believe this is Tay’s first appearance on this list, but better-late-than-never as he led the offense in receptions and yardage in the Tigers’ 24-22 win over Notre Dame during a monsoon that only–well you get the picture who could stop. His five receptions for 43 yards and that touchdown he scored while breaking through multiple Irish Defenders in the first half are easily enough to land him on it this week.
Martin Ruiz, RB – Youngstown State (Robinson HS)
Ruiz is in his junior season with the Penguins and has already rushed for nearly 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns already for his career. Last week at South Dakota, Ruiz rushed for 86 yards on 28 carries and for two touchdowns in Youngstown’s 31-3 rout. This week YSU hosts 2014 FCS Runners-up Illinois State.
Xavier Johnson, RB – South Alabama (Chamberlain HS)
He’s also been a past winner of this award following the Jags huge road victory at San Diego State. Last weekend, Johnson helped his squad get the victory over their rivals from Troy 24-16. The Class of 2013 running back from Chamberlain rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown against the Trojans.
Ish Witter, RB – Missouri (Alonso HS)
The Tigers got the 24-10 victory over South Carolina last Saturday and thanks in large part to Witter’s 98 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown rush to take the pressure off of their brand new quarterback. This week, the Tigers host Florida.
THIS WEEK’s DISTINGUISHED OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK IS?
Artavis Scott – He’s been getting it done all season and the way he was able to make a play and score points early in their slugfest against Notre Dame proved to be some of the biggest points of the game for his squad. Artavis’ ability to make those kinds of plays are no secret to those of us around here that’ve been fortunate enough to witness from the eighth grade–and even younger for some. Congrats!
