Tampa Bay recruiting buzz, with numerous offers

Eric Moate, Spoto, ATH, 2013
Receiving heavy D1 non BCS attention. Schools are recruiting him heavily as an ATH, with the ability to play on either side of the ball.

Marcus Mosley, Alonso, TE, 2014
Receiving BCS early attention. 6-4/205 sophomore is the number 1 ranked TE in Tampa Bay.

Trey Johnson, Steinbrenner, CB, 2013
Receiving heavy D1 non BCS attention. We expect his 1st verbal offer to come soon.

Robert Davis, CDS, RB, 2013
Holds offers from FIU and North Texas. We expect his third offer to come this week.

DeAndre James, Blake, RB/S, 2013

Tampa Bay Spring Bubble Players

Some players who are not receiving the attention they should be. Some players who have cooled off.  And a few players that will receive plenty of attnetion during the spring.

NEED MORE AIR
Zach Benjamin, Tampa Catholic, 2013 WR
What is it going to take for college programs to realize that this kid could be one of the biggest pick ups for a division 1 program? He put together a solid 2011 season with good film, has killed the showcase circuit and is solid academically.

Pete Dinovo, East Lake, 2013 QB
“An offer is coming soon. I think we will offer…” Heard it several times. Something is missing and we wish someone would be honest with us and let us know. But as of right know…Pete just wins!

Josh Black, Sickles, 2014 OLB
His film shows a defensive force, running chaos, James Wilder like destruction. 6-2 will not get him recruited as a defensive end, but he is projected as a OLB. This 2014 prospect should be getting early attention.

Marcus Mosley, Alonso, 2014 TE
Possible explosion during the spring. 6-4 sophomore is too athletic and has too much upside for a college coach to miss.

Shaheed Salmon, Land O’ Lakes, 2014 DE
O’ Lakes is still in good hands and the departure of Kent Taylor is not the end of the line for the talent train at the school. Salmon is raw and needs to refine his technique, but you can see the athleticism and drive.

STILL FLOATING
Robert Davis, Carrollwood Day, 2013 RB
A few early offers for the CDS RB, but things have cooled as of late. We anticipate more offers to come as college coaches “eye ball” Davis at practice.

David Emmanuel, Pasco, 2013 RB
David Emmanuel still has no offers. Attention is starting to grow, but no school has pulled the trigger yet. He is still floating becasue the attention DT Joey Ivie and ATH Janarian Grant are receiving will attract college coaches to Pasco high, where Emmanuel can show his worth.

Tramaine Batten, Dunedin, 2013 RB
UMASS and Toledo were back to back offers for Batten early in the spring. Since, steady attention has flowed in, but no addition verbal offers.

Reggie Brown, Jesuit, 2013 CB
Brown is the #4 ranked CB in the area. At 5-11, Brown has good height and has good speed to be a solid corner at the D1 level. But activity has gone cold since early spring. May will be an important month for the 2013 prospct.

Mitchell Wright, Plant, 2013 DE
The name doesn’t set the recruiting world on fire. But, it is known locally. Wright is a long, lean DE with great feet and a high motor.

WILL POP
Austin Copeland, Lakewood, 2013 OLB
“Who is this kid?” We are sure you are asking. Just wait. This athlete could be the best kept secret at Lakewood High. Coming to a field near you…

Michael Duclos, Robinson, 2015 RB
Just a freshman! in the words of one Plant High defensive back coach, “He’s just a baby!” Duclos shows so much promise it is scary. In order for him to be a BCS prospect he has to improve one area of his game; the home run.. If the young Knight can display that he can hit the hole, make a defender miss, then outrun the secondary for 75 yards, his game will be flawless and the offers will come in at a rapid rate.

Bruce Hector, Robinson, 2013 OL/DL
We ranked Hector as the #1 ranked interior offensive lineman. However, he will more than likely be projected as a DT. He is super physical and can run. 6-3/265lbs, May should be good to Hector.

Byron Cowart, Armwood, 2015 DE
Ahh yes, another defensive lineman under defensive coordinator Matt Thompson. This has to be some kind of trend. Annually, Armwood produces a singular or multiple top notch defensive lineman and Cowart is next in line. Wait for it…

George Campbell, East Lake, 2015 S
If you are a follower of Pinellas County sports, you know this young man. A multiple sport starter as a freshman and 5 star football potential.

How in the world does BCP do its rankings?

He didn’t even play last year. He’s not even going to start. But he doesn’t have any offers! The world of rankings is a fickle on. Would we love to rank everyone? Absolutely. Is it possible? No. So, how does BCP figure its rankings? What factors are taken into account?

As stated at the top of each rankings page, “the rankings are based on skill, talent; basically, who we think will be the top players of the 2012 season. Our evaluations are based on film review, Ignite Showcase performance, combines and practice observations.”

If you feel like you, a teammate, or one of your players deserves to be on the list look to see if that player meets the above criteria. Have we been able to see him play a significant amount? If not, does he have film? If not, was he at a BCP event where we could evaluate him? If not, then he probably isn’t ranked.

PRO-STYLE QB RANKINGS

DiNovo, Litton, Johnson … It doesn’t get much better than that for the top three pro-style quarterbacks in Tampa Bay.

DUAL-THREAT QB RANKINGS

Three freshman find themselves ranked in the top 10 of our dual-threat rankings. Between Leston and Davis’ film, and Mayes’ participation at the Ignite Showcase, we were able to see these freshman quite a bit and feel that all three will develop into solid signal callers.

RB RANKINGS

Runningbacks were without a doubt the toughest offensive position to rank. Ryan Green was the unanimous number one, but everything from there was up for debate. Things were left to so much debate that we couldn’t whittle it down to a top 10. Ish Witter and Brandon Byrd ‘tied’ for the number 10 slot because it was just too difficult to justify leaving one off.

WR RANKINGS

Another one of the deepest positions in Tampa Bay, the athletes on the outside remain heavily recruited. Lakewood’s dynamic duo of Rodney Adams, Florida commit, and Marquez Valdes will give defensive backfields fits next year as the two are extremely talented and dangerous.

SLOT RECEIVER RANKINGS

All-BCP Player of the Year, State Champ, it only makes sense that Alvin Bailey headlines the slot receiver rankings. Assuming Darryl Richardson stays healthy next year Bailey will spend his time at his natural position and flourish.

INTERIOR OL RANKINGS

Countryside finds its entire interior line  ranked in the top 10. Ranking centers with guards was tricky because of the athleticism guards display when pulling while centers generally aren’t as active downfield. Pertile, Rosinski and Podurgiel  will look keep the Cougars rushing attack healthy after averaging 200 yards per game on the ground.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE RANKINGS

Wow… Trench warfare at its finest. Richy Klepal is the big name getting looks for a multiple BCS schools, and rightfully so, but look at the list of sophomores. Klepal along with Mason Cole, Corey Martinez, Cameron Ruff and Isaiah Wynn is an unbelievable group of offensive linemen who all have big and bright futures ahead of them.

TE RANKINGS

Headlined by sophomore Marcus Mosley, the tight end rankings were difficult because we factored in play making ability as well as the player’s effectiveness each down as a blocker. Mosley passes the eye test, but impresses even more than that once the ball is in his hands. He runs solid routes and possesses good hands and body control.

Just outside of the Winter 49: 2014 prospects with great upside

It was tough, but we got it done. The Winter Fire 49 list dropped a few weeks back and we are proud of the product. There were so many kids who could have made that list, but as the title states, there can only be “49”. Below are a FEW of the talented 2014 players who just missed the cut.

Cortavious Givens, Admiral Farragut, RB/LB [5-11/200]

Before his season ending knee injury, Givens was considered one of the best RBs in the Bay. If he comes back strong, he could claim his rightful spot amongst the best. At nearly 6ft and solid at 200lbs, he has a frame like a college sophomore.

Gary Brown, Alonso, OT

Just wait! This name will become very popular. The 2014 Raven is still a baby but has plenty of upside.

Marcus Mosley, Alonso, TE/WR [6-4/195]

Entering the 2012 season, this young player could be ranked as one of the top TE/WR in Tampa Bay. He has a very good frame, runs well and is not afraid to catch the ball in traffic.

Kyle Gibson, Armwood, S, [6-1/165]

The hard hitting Hawk safety came on strong in 2011 and will be expected to get bigger and be better in 2012. Gibson is a little light right now, but may hit a grow spurt and add some very good weight during the offseason. Tagged up with Leon McQuay, Gibson should make his own name in 2012,

Darren Lester, Brandon, OT

The big offensive tackle out of Brandon shows his age when he plays, but another thing that is evident is his love for the game. Lester plays high, uses a few wasted steps, but that is to be expected from a young player. What he also does is latch on to defenders, drive his feet and play to the whistle. This kid will be a big name in years to come.

Maurice Hall, Gibbs, DE/WR [6-2/195]

Hall already holds a verbal offer from Oklahoma. He is attracting attention from numerous division 1 schools. He is as versatile as they come and a great kid. Keep your ears open, you will hear this name plenty.

Michael Clark, Gibbs, WR [6-5/170]

After transferring from Tampa Catholic to Boca Ciega, Clark did not join the Boca football team. If he decides to step back on the gridiron, Clarke will automatically become one of the best receivers in Pinellas County.

Austin Roberts, Plant, WR [6-2/185]

Right now he is 6-2. This time next year, don’t be surprised if he is 6-4/215. Roberts smelled himself a little this season, becoming a quality contributor in the Panther receiving corp. If he hits the off season hard, his 2012 season can be an all-out jail break!

Chivarsky Corbett, Tampa Catholic, QB [6-4/170]

Corbett still holds the key to how good Corbett can be. The multi-sport sophomore is talented but did not show a great leap of improvement from his freshman to sophomore season. Once basketball season concludes Corbett will need to focus on hammering the weight room and sharpening his craft to prepare for what is likely to be his make or break recruiting year.
